District & Session Judge Lahore empowered for Moonis Elahi’s case

22 Jul

THE Federal Ministry of Law, through a notification on Thursday, conferred powers of special judge (banking offences) upon Lahore District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Mujahid Mustaqeem enabling him to proceed with the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) land scam involving PML-Q MPA Moonis Elahi.

The ministry has sent a notification to the LHC registrar. The Lahore High Court chief justice had transferred the NICL case to the Lahore D&SJ after the judge of special court for banking offences, Malik Abdul Rasheed, had refused to proceed with the case. The judge had taken a plea that the counsel for Moonis Elahi had been trying to influence the court. Transferring the case to the D&SJ, the LHC CJ had also directed the federal government to confer powers of special judge upon the sessions judge.
